MORGANTOWN, W. Va. – Junior Amy Read shattered the women's platform diving record, earning first-place and scoring 289.65 points as the University of Pittsburgh diving team competed in Morgantown Wednesday afternoon.
"It was a great first meet with lots of strong performances," said head diving coach Katie Hazelton. "Amy [Read] is now competing in a harder dive in her platform list, which is back armstand with double somersaults so it's great to see that pay off with the school record."
Read broke the record by more than 20 points, as it was previously held by Krista Jones with a score of 265.58 set in 2019. Junior Serena Buchwald finished second in the platform with a personal-best mark of 260.18, just five points shy of the original record set by Jones. Freshman Claire McDaniels, in the first dive of her Pitt career, placed fourth (247.50).
In the women's 3-meter, Buchwald took second (296.18) while McDaniels placed third (280.35). In the final event of the afternoon, Reed took home first again, this time in the 1-meter dive with a mark of 297.38. Pitt swept the podium, as Buchwald placed second with a PR score of 291.60 while McDaniels finished third, scoring 283.73.

"Dylan is just returning from injury so to see him step up and get a huge personal best on the 3-meter is really encouraging," said Hazelton. Overall, we got 16 zone cuts for the NCAA zone qualifiers. We are in a good position for our first meet but we still have some progress to work on as we get home and regroup before championship season."
Pitt is back in action tomorrow with swimming only at home for day two of the Backyard Brawl with West Virginia. The women begin at 11 a.m. followed by the men at 3 p.m. The meet will be broadcast on the ACCNX.
