PITTSBURGH—University of Pittsburgh sophomore diver Amy Read, who received All-America honors this spring after qualifying for the NCAA Championships for the second consecutive season, was named a 2020 CSCAA First Team Scholar All-American this week by the Collegiate Swimming & Diving Coaches Association of America.
Read was one of 14 Pitt swimming and diving student-athletes to be honored for the impressive combination of academic and athletic success by the CSCAA, with 13 Panthers earning the distinction of Honorable Mention Scholar All-America from the prestigious organization.
The Pitt women who received Honorable Mention Scholar All-America honors from the CSCAA were divers Lisa Coe, Meredith Gould, Krista Jones and Cortnee Williams, and swimmers Valerie Daigneault, Dakota Elliott, Sarah Giamber and Madelyn Shaffer.
Members of the Pitt men's team to earn CSCAA Honorable Mention Scholar All-America recognition were divers Wesley Ahart and Josh Parquet and swimmers Wojciech Dutkowiak, Samy Helmbacher and Cooper van der Laan.
Both Pitt men's and women's swimming and diving teams were deemed Scholar All-America programs based on overall grade-point averages, the CSCAA announced last week.
The Panthers, under the leadership of fifth-year program head coach John Hargis and fourth-year diving coach Katie Hazelton, have made steady progress in the pool and the classroom in recent years.
Pitt swimming & diving posted a program-record 49 total ACC Academic Honor Roll selections this year, in the same season in which the men's team scored a program-record points total at the ACC meet and three student-athletes received All-America honors: Serena Buchwald, Amy Read and Blaise Vera.
