Michaela Burton: Dear Pittsburgh

Dear Pittsburgh,
Wow, the year flew by. My time here was short, but I have so many new lifelong memories and friends. Before I get into it, I just want to say a special thank you to everyone that made this year so amazing (you know who you are).
Until this year, I had never been in the state of Pennsylvania before. Pittsburgh is a hidden gem and I was lucky enough to call it home this year. Coming to a new place and adjusting to a new culture is very scary and intimidating. Of course, I didn't know what to expect when I got here. Leaving for my senior season meant learning to trust people in such a short amount of time and roll with whatever was thrown at me.
That being said, coming to Pitt was by far the best decision I have ever made in my life. Since the first time I set foot on this campus, I have loved it. All the fears I originally had quickly diminished when I met everyone on the team, and they took me in with open arms. It felt like I blinked and all of a sudden, I got this new family that lifted me up and supported me through all the ups and downs. That feeling was indescribable. It was what made this year the best I've had in my collegiate career.
Although I didn't get to end my career the way I wanted to, I couldn't have asked for a better group of people to share my last season with. My Bad Boys were the loudest, most confident, happiest team in the country. We broke records this year and we had more in us. The world was starting to notice Pitt gymnastics and we were not going to disappoint. I know that this was just the beginning for this program, and I can't wait to see them pick up where we left off.
I also want to say how much I appreciate the fans. Competing in The Fitz was amazing, and having all of your energy and support helped us fuel our fire for the remainder of the season. Everything we accomplished this year wouldn't have been possible without all of you, so thank you for showing up at every meet and being there for all the highs and lows this year.
To my forever family, I will continue to Hail for the rest of my life. Pittsburgh, you have been so good to me, and I can never repay you for the incredible path you set me on.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart,
Michaela Burton
