George Enters Transfer Portal

PITTSBURGH – Forward Samson George will enter the NCAA Division I Transfer Portal following three seasons at the University of Pittsburgh. He is expected to graduate this spring and will be immediately eligible upon transfer.
"Samson is an outstanding teammate and has been a terrific representative of the University of Pittsburgh," said head coach Jeff Capel. "I appreciate his efforts every day in practice and commitment to the program over the past two seasons. We support his decision to seek playing opportunities elsewhere and wish him the best of luck in the process."
George appeared in 27 career games averaging 0.9 points and 1.0 rebounds per game. He matched a career high with four rebounds this season against West Virginia.
Pitt finished the season 16-17 overall including a 6-14 mark in ACC play. The Panthers' top four scorers were underclassman with Justin Champagnie becoming the first Pitt freshman since Charles Smith (1985-86) to lead the team in scoring (12.7 ppg.) and rebounds (7.0 rpg.).
Xavier Johnson (11.7 ) averaged double figures in scoring for the second consecutive season, while fellow sophomore Au'Diese Toney delivered 9.5 points and 4.8 rebounds per game.
Pitt defeated Wake Forest in the opening round of the ACC Tournament before falling to NC State Wednesday, March 11. The tournament was halted the following day due to the national health crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Panthers' roster will be bolstered next season with the eligibility of transfer Ithiel Horton. Horton averaged 13.2 points per game, while shooting 40.9 percent (79-of-193) from three-point range, en route to earning CAA All-Rookie Team honors at Delaware during the 2018-19 season.
Pitt also has a talented group of 2020 commitments featuring top 100 prospect John Hugley, four-star forward Noah Collier and emerging three-star center Max Amadasun. The Panthers also received a verbal commitment from a highly touted three-star guard out of Massachusetts this week.
Pitt currently has three remaining scholarships available for the 2020-21 season.
