Post-Gazette Honors Pitt Volleyball, Bill Hillgrove with Dapper Dan Awards

Panthers Attend 84th Dapper Dan Dinner & Sports Auction
PITTSBURGH – The University of Pittsburgh was spotlighted at the city's biggest night in sports achievement, the Dapper Dan Dinner & Sports Auction, Monday night at the Wyndham Grand Downtown.
Hosted by the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, the annual event honors the best accomplishments in Pittsburgh sports. Monday marked the 84th edition of the celebration. Proceeds from the event benefit the Boys & Girls Club of Western Pennsylvania and other local charities.
The Pitt volleyball team was honored as Sportswomen of the Year after capturing its third consecutive ACC Championship in 2019. The Panthers went undefeated in ACC play, 30-2 overall, and reached a program-best ranking of No. 2 in the nation. Junior captain Kayla Lund was named the league's Player of the Year after leading the Panthers with 3.57 kills per set.
The legendary Bill Hillgrove was presented with the Lifetime Achievement Award. An iconic voice in Pittsburgh sports, Hillgrove has served for decades as the radio play-by-play analyst of Pitt football and men's basketball, as well the Pittsburgh Steelers. In 1969, he began his career with Pitt men's basketball on WTAE-Radio, and later extended to football in 1974. Since 1994 he has been the voice of the Pittsburgh Steelers. A native of Pittsburgh and resident of Murrysville, Hillgrove graduated from Central Catholic High School and received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Duquesne University.
Other accolades lauded Monday night included Steelers defensive end Cameron Heyward as Sportsman of the Year, and Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin earning the Dr. Freddie Fu Sports Leadership Award.
