PITTSBURGH—Pitt senior Cal Adomitis was named as one of 10 semifinalists for the Patrick Mannelly Award presented to the top long snapper in college football, it was announced Wednesday.
For the second straight college football season, the Mannelly Award will select and honor the best senior long snapper in the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS), recognizing a crucial special teams position that previously went overlooked in postseason awards.
The award, named after former NFL long snapper Patrick Mannelly, will select three finalists on Dec. 22 and present the award to the winner in a virtual ceremony on Jan. 9.
Adomitis, a Pittsburgh native and product of Pittsburgh Central Catholic High School, has excelled in his long-snapping duties for the Panthers for four consecutive seasons. He combines precision snapping with excellent effort in coverage, resulting in 11 career tackles on opposing punt returns.
When Pitt faces Georgia Tech in its regular-season finale on Thursday night in Atlanta, Adomitis is expected to make his 50th consecutive appearance for the Panthers.
A former walk-on, Adomitis won the starting long snapper job for the Panthers as a true freshman in 2017 and earned a football scholarship ahead of the 2018 season. Since then, his snapping consistency on both placements and punts, along with his outstanding coverage abilities, have resulted in him becoming a popular and respected figure amongst his teammates, coaches and Pitt fans.
Also an outstanding representative of the University of Pittsburgh off the field, Adomitis was this year given a marquee leadership role in Pitt Athletics when he was selected as the President of Pitt's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee for the 2020-21 academic year.
An economics major, Adomitis has previously earned ACC Academic Honor Roll selection as well.
