Patrick Jones II Named Second Team AFCA All-American
PITTSBURGH—Pitt's senior defensive end duo of Rashad Weaver and Patrick Jones II was honored yet again today as each player earned recognition on the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) All-America Team.
Weaver was named an AFCA first team All-American, while Jones was a second-team selection.
It is Weaver's third first-team honor, earning him consensus All-America status. He was also a first-team pick by Associated Press and the Football Writers Association of America (FWAA).
The AFCA All-America Team is among the five used in the NCAA's selection of an annual college football consensus All-America team. The other selectors are the AP, FWAA, Sporting News and Walter Camp Football Foundation. The Walter Camp team will be unveiled on January 7.
The Panthers now boast 52 all-time consensus All-Americans, which ranks ninth among all schools.
Kick returner Quadree Henderson was the last Pitt player to earn consensus All-America in 2016. Pitt's last defensive consensus All-American was tackle Aaron Donald, who earned unanimous status in 2013.

Weaver (Fort Lauderdale, Fla./Cooper City) totaled 35 tackles, 14.5 tackles for loss, 7.5 sacks, three forced fumbles and a fumble recovery this season. He led the ACC in sacks (0.83 avg., 17th nationally) and tackles for loss (1.6 avg., 16th nationally) per game.
Jones (Chesapeake, Va./Grassfield) compiled 44 tackles, 13 tackles for loss, nine sacks and a fumble recovery. He led the ACC and ranked fourth in the nation in total sacks. Jones was sixth in the ACC and 14th nationally in total TFLs.
Weaver and Jones have accepted an invitation to play in the prestigious Reese's Senior Bowl, which annually showcases the country's elite pro prospects. The game, nationally televised by NFL Network, will be held on January 30, 2021, at Hancock Whitney Stadium in Mobile, Ala.
