PITTSBURGH—Pitt senior defensive end Rashad Weaver continued to garner prestigious postseason accolades today when he was named a first-team selection on the 2020 Football Writers Association of America (FWAA) All-America Team, presented in partnership with the Goodyear Cotton Bowl Classic.
As a first-team FWAA All-American, Weaver will receive a custom All-America watch and commemorative football. Prior to Weaver, the Panthers' last first team FWAA All-American was kick returner Quadree Henderson in 2016. The last Pitt defensive player to be so honored was tackle Aaron Donald in 2013.
Weaver (Fort Lauderdale, Fla./Cooper City) totaled 35 tackles, 14.5 tackles for loss, 7.5 sacks, three forced fumbles and a fumble recovery this season. He led the ACC in sacks (0.83 avg., 17th nationally) and tackles for loss (1.6 avg., 16th nationally) per game.
Now in its 76th year, the FWAA All-America Team has been among the five used in the NCAA's selection of an annual consensus All-America team in college football. The other selectors are the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA), Associated Press, Sporting News and Walter Camp Football Foundation.
Weaver previously was named a first team All-American by Associated Press. He was a second-team pick by Sporting News. The AFCA (Dec. 31) and Walter Camp (Jan. 7) teams are to be announced.
Weaver has accepted an invitation to play in the prestigious Reese's Senior Bowl, which annually showcases the country's elite pro prospects. The game, nationally televised by NFL Network, will be held on January 30, 2021, at Hancock Whitney Stadium in Mobile, Ala.
