PITTSBURGH—Pitt junior Kirk Christodoulou, rated by Pro Football Focus as the nation's No. 1 collegiate punter, has been selected the Ray Guy Award's National Punter of the Week for his performance at Clemson, it was announced today by the Augusta Sports Council.
This is the second time this season that Christodoulou has earned Ray Guy's national punting honor. He was previously recognized following the Panthers' Nov. 7 victory at Florida State.
At Clemson, Christodoulou averaged 46.1 yards (gross and net) on 10 punts. He placed five punts inside the 20-yard line and his arching kicks prevented the Tigers from recording even a single return yard.
On the year, Christodoulou is averaging 44.7 yards on 51 punts to rank 20th nationally. He has placed an ACC-leading 22 punts inside the 20-yard line with only one touchback.
More impressively, Christodoulou's efforts have resulted in a 42.7-yard net punting average, with only eight of his punts being returned for a total of just 83 punt return yards by Pitt's opponents this season.
Christodoulou is the latest Australian punter to make an impact on the American game of football. A graduate of Melbourne's Balwyn High School, he worked with the renowned Prokick Australia program that has produced many successful NFL punters, including the Pittsburgh Steelers' Jordan Berry, the San Francisco 49ers' Mitch Wishnowsky, the Seattle Seahawks' Michael Dickson as well as the Philadelphia Eagles' Cameron Johnston.
The Ray Guy Award is annually presented to the nation's top collegiate punter. The 2020 recipient will be unveiled on ESPN's Home Depot College Football Awards Show on Jan. 7, 2021.
