PITTSBURGH – DJ Turner was named the Office Depot/Supra Student-Athlete of the Week following his impressive performance for the Pitt football team Saturday.
Turner achieved one of the greatest games ever by a Pitt wide receiver while sparking the Panthers to a 47-14 victory over Virginia Tech. He hauled in 15 catches for 184 yards, including a 64-yard touchdown. His receptions total is the highest by an ACC player this year and the second highest nationally.
His 15 catches are the second most in Pitt history. He fell just one reception shy of the school single-game receptions record of 16 set by Harry Orszulak against Penn State in 1968. He set a Virginia Tech opponent record for receptions, surpassing the previous mark of 14 set by Maryland's Frank Wycheck in 1990.
For his efforts, Turner was named the ACC Wide Receiver of the Week for the second time this season.
