PITTSBURGH – The University of Pittsburgh men's soccer team announced the signing of Luis Sahmkow today.
A native of Plano, Texas, Sahmkow played forward for Plano East High School (6A). He was promoted to the varsity squad five games into his freshman season, leading the team in goals and named team MVP. That year, he received Second Team All-District.
"We are very excited to have Luis join our Pitt soccer family," said head coach Jay Vidovich. "He comes from a very successful club where he is used to performing at a very high level. His intangibles and what he will bring to the team are something we are excited about.
Sahmkow joined Solar F.C. in 2010 and has participated for them since. He was part of the DA U16/17 National Champion squad in 2019 and helped lead his team to a second-place finish in the Dallas Cup (U15/16) and third-place showing at US Nationals (U15/16) in 2018.
Sahmkow was born in Venezuela and moved to Texas at the age of seven. He is fluent in both English and Spanish. Sahmkow intends to major in business/communications at Pitt.
