PITTSBURGH – Amanda West of women's soccer and Alex Kessman of football were named the Office Depot/Supra Student-Athletes of the Week following impressive performances in their respective sports.
West scored a penalty kick late in the second half that allowed Pitt to send Thursday's game into overtime at No. 10 Virginia. Entering the game as the nation's leading scorer, the goal extended her program-best goal-scoring streak to seven games and moved her ahead of Ashley Habbel (2006-09) for the third-most career points (46) and tied Netta Agredano (2000-03) for the fifth-most goals (17) in program history.
Kessman was 5-for-5 on placements for 11 points against NC State. He converted three field goals (27, 29 and 42 yards) and both PAT tries. Kessman now has 272 points for his career (116 PAT/52 FG) to rank second all-time at Pitt in kick scoring. Additionally, he now ranks fourth all-time at Pitt in overall scoring. Kessman is closing in on Pitt's career field goals record with 52, trailing only all-time leader Chris Blewitt, who kicked 55 from 2013-16.
