Five Panthers Place at Southern Scuffle

Pitt Finishes Fourth with 93 Team Points
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – Five University of Pittsburgh wrestlers reached the podium Thursday night as action concluded at the 2020 Southern Scuffle at McKenzie Arena. The 10th-ranked Panthers finished fourth as a team.
Redshirt junior Gregg Harvey earned the highest finish, placing second at 174 pounds. Three Panthers finished third in redshirt sophomores Micky Phillippi (133) and Nino Bonaccorsi (184), and senior Demetrius Thomas (285), while redshirt junior Jake Wentzel (165) placed sixth.
Thursday's morning session saw action from Wentzel, redshirt senior Taleb Rahmani (157) and freshman Colton Camacho (125-unattached).
Camacho and Rahmani were unable to get out of the fifth round of consolation and were eliminated from the tournament.
Wentzel won back-to-back matches to advance to the consolation semifinals, but fell to No. 6 Thomas Bullard of NC State and lost to Joe Lee of Penn State (unattached) in the fifth place match to finish sixth at the night session.
In the semifinals, Harvey was the lone Panther to advance to the championship finals.
Phillippi, Bonaccorsi and Thomas all fell in their semifinal matches, but battled back to place third.
As a team, the Panthers placed fourth with 93 points. The fourth-place finish is the highest in program history.
