
Burton Wins Three Events in First Pitt Gymnastics Meet

Senior Leads Panthers in Debut
PITTSBURGH – Making her Pitt gymnastics debut, senior Michaela Burton won all three events in which she competed Saturday afternoon at Fitzgerald Field House.
In her first meet as a Panther, Burton championed uneven bars (9.85), balance beam (9.85) and floor exercise (9.825).
The Panthers (0-1, 0-1 EAGL) fell to No. 18 New Hampshire (2-0, 1-0 EAGL) in the dual meet by a score of 194.225-193.800.
Other Panthers on the podium included senior Deven Herbine, who earned second place on vault (9.775) and third on beam (9.775), senior Alecia Petrikis, who placed third on vault (9.750), and freshman Christina Weiss, who was runner-up on bars (9.775)
VAULT
Herbine led the Panthers with a 9.775 in the season opener, followed by Petrikis at 9.750. Junior Haley Brechwald earned a 9.650, while the next three scores by the Panthers were 9.625. Combined, Pitt earned a team score of 48.425 to begin the meet.
BARS
Burton anchored the Panthers' bars lineup and produced an event-winning score of 9.850. Weiss also impressed in her Pitt debut with a 9.775 to place second. Senior Rachel Dugan rounded out Pitt's top three scores with a 9.600. In total, Pitt secured a 48.350 on bars to total 96.775 through two events.
BEAM
Burton picked up right where she left off with a meet-best score of 9.850 on beam. Herbine followed with a 9.775, and junior Jordan Ceccarini picked up a 9.725 for Pitt. The event marked Pitt's best team score of the day with a 48.600. Through three events, Pitt earned a score 145.375.
FLOOR
To close out the day, Burton score 9.825 on floor to win the event. Sophomore Olivia Miller posted a 9.750 to follow, and Petrikis had the third-best score for the Panthers with a 9.675. At the conclusion of the meet, Pitt totaled 193.800 for its season opener.
