Kentucky Gymnastics Alumnus Joins Panthers’ Staff
PITTSBURGH – Marissa Beucler has joined the Pitt gymnastics staff as volunteer assistant coach, head coach Samantha Snider announced Wednesday.
"We are excited to add Marissa to our coaching staff," Snider said. "Her technical knowledge, competitive excellence and coaching philosophy will add a new energy to our program. We are looking forward to her arrival at Pitt, and the opportunity to work with our student-athletes."
Beucler arrives at Pitt after spending the past three seasons as an assistant coach at Bowling Green. At BGSU, Beucler coached Jovannah East en route to becoming the first Falcon to compete in the all-around competition at the NCAA National Championship in 2018 and just the second BGSU gymnast to qualify in any event. The team placed third at the MAC Championships (the program's third consecutive top-three finish) and East shared the MAC Championship on vault.
"I am honored to be joining the staff at the University of Pittsburgh," Beucler said. "I am passionate about bringing positivity to the future of gymnastics and inspiring athletes to excel in the classroom and on the competition floor. The future of this program is very bright and I am looking forward to being part of something special."
Prior to Bowling Green, Beucler coached with Capital City Athletics, where she guided Level 3 through Level 10 competitors and completed detailed workout plans and scheduling for her gymnasts. She also served as the squad's social media and marketing manager.
She also has experience teaching gymnastics to youth from age 7 to 16 and acrobatics to youth from age 2 to 16.
A Findlay, Ohio, native, Beucler is a graduate of the University of Kentucky, where she competed from 2012-16 on the Wildcats' gymnastics team. As a freshman in 2013, Beucler won the beam competition in her first collegiate meet (9.825), as UK upset No. 9 Arkansas. At the SEC Championships, she competed on the floor for the first time and earned a 9.725; she also posted a personal-best 9.750 on vault at that meet.
As a junior in 2015, Beucler participated in ten meets for Kentucky, including two as an all-around competitor. She posted team-best scores on the bars four times and once each on the vault and the all-around. At the SEC Championships, she earned season-best scores of 9.825 (floor) and 9.800 (vault) en route to a 39.125 all-around score.
Beucler competed in all 13 meets as a senior during the 2016 season. She was anchor on the uneven bars and scored a 9.875 in a victory over Missouri; she also posted a season-best 9.800 on vault during that meet. She earned three event titles on uneven bars, each with a 9.875. At the NCAA Regional in Tuscaloosa, she scored a 9.800 on bars. Her efforts helped UK to the second- and third-highest scores in team history in back-to-back weeks against Arkansas and Florida.
Beucler was a three-time SEC Academic Honor Roll honoree and was twice named Academic All-American (2015, 2016). She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in broadcast journalism.
