PITTSBURGH—The University of Pittsburgh swimming & diving program was recognized by the College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) for academic excellence during the 2018-19 campaign as the Panthers earned individual and collective Scholar All-America honors.
The Pitt women's swimming & diving team was named one of the CSCAA's 2019 Scholar All-America programs after posting a team grade-point average of 3.30 this past year.
Individually, eight Panthers were also named 2019 CSCAA Honorable Mention Scholar All-Americans after maintaining at least a 3.50 grade-point average while competing during the 2018-19 season.
Collecting CSCAA Honorable Mention All-America honors for the third consecutive season from Pitt were senior Brian Lovasik and junior Valerie Daigneault, who each just concluded tremendous swimming campaigns that culminated in setting Panthers school records at the 2019 ACC Championships.
Junior swimmer Madelyn Shaffer, who also set a Pitt record at the 2019 conference meet, and junior diver Cortnee Williams garnered Honorable Mention Scholar All-America accolades from the CSCAA for the second consecutive season.
Junior swimmer Sarah Giamber, sophomore swimmer Jason Young, freshman diver Wesley Ahart and freshman swimmer Dakota Elliott were each first-time Honorable Mention Scholar All-Americans.
Over the past three years under the leadership of head coach John Hargis, 23 Panthers have been selected as CSCAA Scholar All-Americans, including three first-team honorees.
