PITTSBURGH--Three University of Pittsburgh intercollegiate sports programs earned NCAA Public Recognition Awards for exemplary Academic Progress Rates (APR): women's basketball, women's cross country and women's tennis.
"We are extremely proud of our three programs that earned perfect scores and received public recognition by the NCAA for APR excellence," Pitt Director of Athletics Heather Lyke said. "The combination of extremely motivated student-athletes and highly supportive coaches and staff at the University of Pittsburgh has resulted in achieving these levels of academic excellence. I am grateful for our coaches and staff who are dedicated to providing an exceptional student-athlete experience for our kids."
The awards are presented each year to teams finishing among the top 10 percent of their respective sport based on the most recent multi-year APR. The Panthers now have 25 teams recognized in the 14 years since the APR has been tracked. Pitt has had three or more teams recognized in each of the past four years.
The APR provides a real-time look at a team's academic success each semester or quarter by tracking the academic progress of each student-athlete. The APR includes eligibility, retention and graduation in the calculation and provides a clear picture of the academic culture in each sport.
