Fourteen Student-Athletes to Participate in Eight-Week Program
PITTSBURGH – Fourteen student-athletes from the University of Pittsburgh will complete an eight-week summer internship within the Department of Athletics as part of the inaugural Pitt Script for Life Internship Program, as announced Wednesday.
"We are excited to launch the Pitt Script for Life Internship Program and introduce our student-athletes to a career in college athletics," Director of Athletics Heather Lyke said. "The internship program will give a comprehensive look into how student-athletes and programs are supported by the Athletic Department and provide the tools necessary to start a career in athletics. We are thrilled to work with and develop the next generation of college athletic administrators."
The Pitt Script for Life Internship Program is intended for those interested in pursuing a career in, or learning more about working in college athletics.
In addition to working within Pitt Athletics, Pitt Script for Life interns receive professional development coaching and education by Life Skills staff members Jackson Martin, Director of Life Skills, and Kelsi Schaer, Career Consultant for Student-Athletes. Through weekly educational meetings, interns will learn and discuss relevant workplace topics as well as visit local prominent organizations to gain multi-dimensional exposure to various industries.
The 14 individuals were selected based on an interview process. The chosen candidates were then placed within 11 functional areas of the department, including broadcast/video production, business/human resources, camps, equipment, external initiatives, facilities, life skills, marketing, media relations, sport administration and ticketing.
