Pitt’s 2019 Conway Award Winners Announced
4/13/2019 11:30:00 AM | Football
PITTSBURGH—Pitt head football coach Pat Narduzzi and his staff have selected the 2019 winners of the Ed Conway Award, annually presented to the most improved offensive and defensive players of spring drills.
The offensive recipients are senior wide receiver Tre Tipton and sophomore offensive lineman Carter Warren. The defensive recipients are junior linebacker Phil Campbell III and sophomore defensive back Paris Ford.

Tipton (Apollo, Pa./Apollo-Ridge) is poised for his finest season after lettering three times as a reserve. Warren (Paterson, N.J./Passaic Tech) established himself as a leading contender for a starting assignment at offensive tackle.
"We are looking for a big senior year from Tre," Narduzzi said. "He is fully healthy and, with continued progress, can be a huge asset in our passing game this fall.
"Carter really seized his opportunities this spring. He did an outstanding job and put himself in position to earn a starting job at tackle."
Campbell (Kendall Park, N.J./South Brunswick), a top contributor at safety the past two years, made a successful transition to outside linebacker this spring. Ford (Pittsburgh, Pa./Steel Valley) lettered as a reserve corner in 2018 and now is eyeing an expanded role at strong safety.
"Phil really showed playmaking ability at linebacker this spring," Narduzzi said. "His speed and athleticism will be great strengths at that position.
"Paris made outstanding strides this entire offseason. He matured and developed into a real force for us defending the run and pass."
The 2019 Conway Award winners were announced at Pitt's player family breakfast this morning at Heinz Field. The award has been annually presented since 1975 in honor of the late Ed Conway, who served as the radio play-by-play voice of Pitt football from 1970-73. A popular sports anchor with WTAE-TV, Conway passed away in 1974.
Pitt concludes spring drills today with the 2019 Blue-Gold Game presented by PNC at Heinz Field. Start time is 1 p.m.
