Panthers Take on Blue Devils Friday Night
PITTSBURGH -- The 15th-ranked University of Pittsburgh wrestling team hosts the Duke Blue Devils Friday, Feb. 15 in its final home dual of the year at the Fitzgerald Field House.

LAST TIME OUT
- Pitt had a successful weekend in North Carolina, sweeping Gardner-Webb, Davidson and No. 8 NC State.
- The Panthers opened the weekend at Gardner-Webb, Saturday, Feb. 9 and downed the Bulldogs, 38-4.
- Later that night, Pitt traveled to Davidson and dominated the Wildcats, 31-6.
- The following day, the Panthers upset then-ranked No. 8 NC State, 18-16.
- The win was the first over NC State since the two teams first met in 2014 and is the first for Pitt in Raleigh.
- The Wolfpack finish the year 9-1 at home.
- Three Panthers recorded impressive and clutch wins over ranked opponents.
- The first of the day was redshirt sophomore Gregg Harvey, who is unranked at 174 pounds, and defeated No. 20 Daniel Bullard in a 6-4 decision.
- Redshirt freshman Nino Bonaccorsi, ranked 13th at 184 pounds, upset No. 3 Nick Reenan in dominant fashion, 8-0, before redshirt junior Kellan Stout, who is unranked, had a vital win at 197 pounds, outlasting No. 20 Malik McDonald in a 5-4 decision.
THE SERIES
- Pitt and Duke clash for the sixth time in program history.
- The Panthers lead the all-time series, 5-0.
SCOUTING THE BLUE DEVILS
- Duke enters the weekend 2-7 overall and 0-3 against ACC foes.
- In their last time out, Feb. 9, the Blue Devils dropped a 26-17 decision to Virginia in Charlottesville.
- Duke is led by a trio of Finesilver's, with redshirt senior Mitch Finesilver leading the way. Mitch ranks sixth in the InterMat polls this week at 149 pounds and is 25-3 on the year, but will not be in the lineup Friday versus Pitt.
- Sophomore Matt Finesilver at 174 pounds will be the only ranked Blue Devil in the lineup as he's ranked 16th and is 21-6 on the year.
BONACCORSI EARNS ACC WEEKLY HONORS
- Redshirt freshman Nino Bonaccorsi was named ACC Wrestler of the Week by the conference Tuesday, Feb. 12.
- The honor comes after an impressive showing in North Carolina last weekend as the Panthers collected three wins, including an upset over then-ranked No. 8 NC State Sunday, Feb. 10.
- Bonaccorsi, who ranked No. 13 at the time, had an upset of his own as he shutout then-ranked No. 3 Nick Reenan of NC State in an 8-0 major decision. The win was pivotal in the team race, as Pitt defeated the Wolfpack in Raleigh, 18-16. Following the victory, Bonaccorsi jumped to No. 10 in the InterMat rankings this week.
- Prior to making the trip to Raleigh, Bonaccorsi pinned Christian Salter of Gardner-Webb in 2:42 as the Panthers downed the Bulldogs, 38-4. Later that night, Bonaccorsi then shutout Conor Fenn of Davidson, 7-0, as the Panthers defeated the Wildcats 31-6.
- The recognition is the first for Bonaccorsi and the second for Pitt as redshirt freshman Micky Phillippi has earned the honor twice this season (1/22, 12/4).
LOOKING AHEAD
- Pitt concludes the regular season Friday, Feb. 22 at Virginia before entering postseason.
- The 2019 ACC Championship is slated for Saturday, March 9 at Virginia Tech.
