Panthers, Dragons Clash for First Time Since 2015
PITTSBURGH -- The 10th-ranked University of Pittsburgh wrestling team [3-1, 0-0 ACC] heads to Philadelphia Sunday afternoon to take on Drexel [2-1, 0-0 EIWA] at the Daskalakis Athletic Center at 1 p.m.

LAST TIME OUT
- The Panthers downed long-time rival West Virginia Thursday night at WVU Coliseum, 29-6.
- Pitt won eight of the 10 bouts, with four coming by way of bonus points.
- Redshirt freshman Louis Newell, redshirt sophomore Nino Bonaccorsi and redshirt junior Jake Wentzel all recorded major decisions over their opponents.
- Redshirt sophomore Micky Phillippi recorded his first technical fall of the year at 133 pounds.
- The win was the 28th over WVU in program history as the Panthers lead the all-time series, 38-25-2.
THE SERIES - DREXEL
- Sunday marks the seventh meeting between the Dragons and Panthers.
- Pitt leads the all-time series, 6-0.
- The Panthers beat the Dragons in their last meeting in 2015 at Pittsburgh, recording a 27-12 victory.
- The first meeting between the two teams occurred during the 1991-92 season.
SCOUTING THE DRAGONS
- Drexel enters the match 2-1 after defeating SIUE and West Liberty in the beginning of November at the Dragon Duals.
- In their last time out, the Dragons fell to No. 4 Oklahoma State, 30-6, Nov. 15.
- The Dragons return two NCAA qualifiers from a year ago, including 16th-ranked Ebed Jarrell (165) and Parker Kropman (157).
- Jarrell is Drexel's only ranked wrestler.
- Drexel finished the 2018-19 season 4-11 overall and 1-5 against EIWA foes and finished ninth at the EIWA Championship.
- The Dragons are led by eighth-year head coach Matt Azevedo.
PITTSBURGH CONNECTIONS
- Drexel's assistant coach, Zack Sheaffer, was an All-American at the University of Pittsburgh and teammates with Pitt head coach Keith Gavin. Sheaffer graduated in 2009.
- While at Pitt, Sheaffer was a four-time letterwinner, EIWA Champion, team captain and won more than 100 career matches.
PITT RETURNS TO TOP 10
- Pitt returned to the top 10 of the NWCA Rankings Tuesday, Nov. 26 for the first time since 2015.
- For the second consecutive week, Pitt ranks No. 10 in the country.
- The Panthers had previously earned a No. 10 rankings eight times.

- Pitt entered the season ranked No. 14 by the NWCA Coaches Poll and currently rank 10th this week.
- Individually, six Panthers are ranked inside the top 20 individually by InterMat at their respective weight classes:

LOOKING AHEAD
- Pitt continues its road stretch with a trip to Maryland to face the Terrapins Friday, Dec. 20.
- The Panthers will remain on the road until Jan. 26 when they return to Pittsburgh to host Edinboro.
