Panthers Take on Campbell in Home Opener
PITTSBURGH -- The 15th-ranked University of Pittsburgh wrestling team [0-0, 0-0 ACC] hosts its first dual of the season Saturday, Nov. 9 when the Campbell Camels [0-0, 0-0 SoCon] come to town. The non-conference matchup will begin at 2 p.m. in the Fitzgerald Field House.

LAST TIME OUT
- Pitt opened the season at the Michigan State Open Saturday, Nov. 2 in East Lansing, Mich.
- Three Panthers captured titles in Cole Matthews (141), Micky Phillippi (133) and Nino Bonaccorsi (184).
- Matthews, a redshirt freshman, captured the title of the Freshman/Sophomore Division, while redshirt sophomores Phillippi and Bonaccorsi won the Open Division.
- Pitt had 12 total placers between the two divisions.
THE SERIES - CAMPBELL
- Saturday marks just the second meeting between Pitt and Campbell.
- The two non-conference foes last met Nov. 6, 2016 in Morgantown, W.Va., at the Mountaineer Duals.
- Pitt defeated the Camels, 21-13.
SCOUTING THE CAMELS
- Saturday's dual is the first of the season for the Camels.
- Campbell enters the season as the reigning Southern Conference champions after winning the title two of the past three years.
- Campbell returns its school-best six NCAA qualifiers from a year ago.
- The Camels opened the season at the Southeast Open last weekend and crowned six individual champions.
- Quentin Perez was tabbed SoCon Wrestler of the Week on Monday after tallying three bonus point wins at the Southeast Open at 165 pounds.
- Campbell is led by sixth year head coach Cary Kolat, who was named the 2019 SoCon Coach of the Year.
PANTHERS IN THE POLLS
- Pitt entered the season ranked No. 14 by the NWCA Coaches Poll and currently rank 15th this week.
- Individually, five Panthers are ranked inside the top 20 individually by InterMat at their respective weight classes:
- 133 – Micky Phillippi, #4
- 141 – Cole Matthews, #19
- 157 – Taleb Rahmani, #16
- 184 – Nino Bonaccorsi, #6
- 285 – Demetrius Thomas, #8
