Panthers Begin Notre Dame Dual Meet with Four Wins

PITTSBURGH—The University of Pittsburgh swimming & diving team emerged from Friday's action against Notre Dame with four event victories, including a dominant performance from the Pitt men's 200-yard freestyle relay squad.
Pitt's freestyle sprinters finished with a winning time of 1:20.56 as Blaise Vera, Ellis Cannon, Eben Vorster and Armin Remenyi defeated the Fighting Irish's top squad by nearly two seconds.
Vera also blazed to an individual event win in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 43.30, while newcomer Cooper van der Laan displayed his speed in the 100-yard breaststroke by touching first with a victorious time of 54.67.
The meet began with platform diving, a rarely seen event in dual-meet competition. Both teams agreed to compete on platform Friday afternoon, and the Panthers responded with several strong efforts.
Sophomore Amy Read won the women's platform competition with a five-dive score of 253.38, while fellow sophomore Serena Buchwald also finished in the top five with a total of 216.98.
Freshman Dylan Reed made his Pitt debut and finished fourth in men's platform with a tally of 243.68.
