
Three Panthers Earn Titles at Michigan State Open

Matthews, Phillippi, Bonaccorsi Earn Titles
EAST LANSING, Mich. – Three Panthers captured titles at the Michigan State Open Saturday, Nov. 2 as the University of Pittsburgh wrestling team opened the 2019-20 season.
Pitt had 12 total placers between the Freshman/Sophomore Division and the Open Division.
"We had some great competition at this tournament and our guys wrestled hard throughout the day," said head coach Keith Gavin. "It was a good way to start the season."
Redshirt freshman Cole Matthews and redshirt sophomores Micky Phillippi and Nino Bonaccorsi all earned titles in their respective weight classes.
In addition to the top placers, two Panthers earned a runner-up finish on the day in redshirt freshmen Louis Newell and Luke Kemerer.
No. 14 Pitt hosts Campbell Saturday, Nov. 9 at 2 p.m. in the Fitzgerald Field House for its first dual of the year. Tickets are available here.
