Pitt Men Notch Highest Finish At NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regionals Since 2006

BETHLEHEM, PA – The University of Pittsburgh cross country teams closed out their season on Friday afternoon at the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regionals, hosted by Lehigh at the Goodman Campus XC Course. The Pitt men posted a seventh place finish, their highest since 2006 while also having a pair of runners earn All-Region honors.
Senior captain Nick Wolk had his strongest showing of his career at regionals on Friday as he notched a 15th place finish and his first All-Region honors while junior Zach Lefever took home 23rd place and the first All-Region honors of his impressive career.
The Pitt men were able to record their second highest finish in program history on Friday as they posted a team score of 206, finishing in seventh place just behind Penn State and Penn. The Panther men improved two spots from a season ago as the program continues to make strong improvements.
Wolk and Lefever got out quick and were able to maintain their pace throughout the race. Wolk posted his best finish, 15th place, as he crossed the finish line in 30:37.90. Lefever hung with the top pack of runners for most of the race and notched a career-best 23rd place finish in 30:47.30. Crossing the line next for the Panthers were Evan Addison and Tyler Rollins, who finished in 43rd and 59th place, respectively.
Freshman Jack Miller had an impressive showing in his first career regional appearance as he took home 66th place in 32:06.10 while Josh Higgins notched a 73rd place finish in 32:13.70. Nick Cardamone had a strong finish in his first regional race as he finishing in 97th place in 32:34.60.
The Pitt women posted a team score of 467 to take home 15th place in the field of 31 teams on Friday morning.
Leading the way for the Panthers once again was senior captain Sam Shields who took home 55th place, crossing the line in 21:29.80. Devon Hoernlein ran a strong race as she crossed the line in 72nd place in 21:46.90 while senior Ally Brunton wasn't far behind in 87th place, finishing the 6k race in 22:01.70. The next two finishers for the Panthers were a pair of freshmen in Lily Robertson and Corinne Firestone who took 101st and 152nd place, respectively. Racing for the Panthers one final time, Sarah Frick took 167th place in 23:23.00 while Katrina Durrwachter finished in 169th place.
