
Cross Country Makes Final Push For NCAA Qualifiers On Friday

PITTSBURGH – The University of Pittsburgh cross country teams aim to produce some NCAA Championship qualifiers as they head to the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regionals this Friday morning in Bethlehem, PA. at Lehigh University's Goodman Campus Cross Country Course. The women's 6K championship race will start things off at 11:00 a.m., followed by the men's 10K championship race at 12:00 p.m.

- A meet recap and results will be posted on PittsburghPanthers.com following the completion of the meet.
- The top four individuals will automatically qualify for the NCAA cross country Championships held in Terre Haute, IN. on Saturday, November 23rd. At-large individuals will also be selected after the conclusion of the regional meets.
- Team scoring is based on individuals' order of finish. The top seven finishers' scores count towards the team score.
- Set to compete for the Panthers on the women's side are Ally Brunton, Katrina Durrwachter, Corinne Firestone, Sarah Frick, Devon Hoernlein, Lily Robertson and Sam Shields.
- Competing for the men are Evan Addison, Nick Cardamone, Josh Higgins, Zach Lefever, Jack Miller, Tyler Rollins, Nick Wolk.
- On the women's side there are a total of 31 teams participating in the regional while the men's field consists of 27 teams.
- Both the men's and the women's races will feature two squads ranked inside the top-30 in the nation.
- On the women's side, Penn State (18) and Villanova (28) are ranked while on the men's side, Villanova (24) and Georgetown (30) are ranked.
- Last season, both the men's and women's squads finished in ninth place. That marked the best team finish for the Pitt men at the regional since 2006.
- Sam Shields led Pitt on the women's side, earning All-Region honors with a 10th-place finish in 21:29, the best individual placement for a Panther since Gillian Schriever took fifth in 2016.
- On the men's side, Zach Lefever led the way, placing 37th in 32:15. Tyler Rollins and Nick Wolk finished back to back, taking home 44th and 45th in 32:33, respectively.
LAST TIME OUT
- The Panthers competed in the ACC Championships in Blacksburg, Va. But didn't turn in the performance they were looking for.
- The men's team claimed an 11th place finish with a team score of 315. Leading the Pitt men was junior Zach Lefever, who notched 38th place with a time of 25:17.4.
- Senior captain Nick Wolk came in 50th place in 25:25.0 while sophomore Evan Addison finished strong with a career-best 54th place finish in 25:28.0.
- On the women's side, the team placed 14th with a team score of 410. Senior captain Sam Shields led the way, finishing in 66th place with a time of 22:23.3.
- Sophomore Devon Hoernlein finished in 22:55.4, good enough for 96th, while freshman Lily Robertson took home 100th place in 23:00.1 and junior Ally Brunton posted a career-best 105th place finish in 23:07.0.
- Depending on their finish, the Panthers will head to Terre Haute, IN. to compete in the NCAA Cross Country Championships on Saturday, November 23rd.
