Women’s Volleyball, Men’s Soccer Student-Athletes Honored
PITTSBURGH – Chinaza Ndee of women's volleyball and Edward Kizza of men's soccer were named the Pitt Student-Athletes of the Week following impressive performances in their respective sports.
Ndee, a junior, led the No. 2 Pitt volleyball team with 3.56 kills per set over the weekend as the Panthers earned at least a share of the ACC title for the third consecutive year. The Houston, Texas, native hit a team-best .410 with 32 kills over nine sets played. Against Georgia Tech (Nov. 8), she posted a team-high 19 kills on .500 hitting in a five-set thriller. She followed that performance with 13 kills against Clemson (Nov. 10) on .296 hitting. Her offensive prowess helped the Panthers extend their best start ever to ACC play, improving to 14-0.
Kizza, a junior, scored both goals for Pitt men's soccer in the Panthers' second ACC quarterfinal appearance in program history Sunday afternoon. The Kampala, Uganda, native found the net in the 13th and 94th minute to seal the match for the Panthers, 2-1. The goals were Kizza's 10th and 11th of the season. With the win over NC State, fourth-seeded Pitt advanced to the ACC semifinal and will face top-seeded Clemson Tuesday at 6 p.m. on ACC Network in Clemson, S.C.
Up next, No. 2 Pitt volleyball (25-1, 14-0) will vie for the outright 2019 ACC title as well as a season sweep against Duke when the Panthers visit Durham, N.C., and Cameron Indoor Stadium Saturday, Nov. 16, at 1 p.m. on ACC Network Extra.
