
Blue and Gold Madness to Feature Performance by Wiz Khalifa

PITTSBURGH – The University of Pittsburgh basketball season tips off Friday, Oct. 11 at the Petersen Events Center with Blue and Gold Madness featuring Pittsburgh native and multi-platinum selling, Grammy and Golden Globe nominated recording artist Wiz Khalifa.
Blue and Gold Madness begins at 9 pm and admission is free. The event will begin with player introductions and a 10-minute running clock scrimmage for the women's basketball team. The 2019-20 Oakland Zoo shirt design will be unveiled prior to the men's basketball team introductions. The men's team will play a 15-minute Blue-Gold Scrimmage to cap off the basketball portion of the event.
The evening will culminate with a live performance from a courtside stage at the Petersen Events Center by Wiz Khalifa.
DJ Bonics, a 2002 graduate of the University of Pittsburgh, will emcee the event. He got his start with WPTS, Pitt's student radio station, and has been the official DJ for Wiz Khalifa since 2010.
Second-year head coach Jeff Capel returns four starters from last season, including double-figure scorers Xavier Johnson (15.5 ppg., 4.5 apg.) and Trey McGowens (11.6 ppg., 64 steals). The Panthers will play Slippery Rock in an exhibition game Wednesday, Oct. 30 (7 p.m.) before opening the season at home against Florida State Wednesday, Nov. 6 (8 p.m. – ESPNU).
On the women's side, head coach Lance White enters his second season at the helm of the Panthers who return a pair of starters from a season ago, including sixth-year guard Aysia Bugg (14.0 ppg., 3.4 apg.) and junior center Cara Judkins (6.6 ppg., 5.6 rpg.). White will also welcome seven newcomers, his first recruiting class, for the 2019-20 campaign. The Panthers will welcome the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown for an exhibition game on Friday, Nov. 1 (7:00 p.m.) before hitting the road for their season opener at Central Florida on Wednesday, Nov. 6 (11 a.m.).
