Women’s Volleyball, Men’s Soccer Student-Athletes Honored
PITTSBURGH – Stephanie Williams of women's volleyball and Alexander Dexter of men's soccer were named the Pitt Student-Athletes of the Week following impressive performances in their respective sports.
Williams, a redshirt senior outside hitter, became one of just three Panthers ever to record 1,300+ kills and 1,000+ digs for her career when she picked up her 1,000th dig at (RV) Notre Dame Friday night. She posted her fourth double-double of the year with 10 kills and 10 digs against the Fighting Irish. The Eastlake, Ohio, native followed that performance with a .444 outing of 10 kills at (RV) Louisville to complete the weekend. In total, she hit .340 from the outside over two sweeps with 3.33 kills per set. She served up a team-best three aces (0.50 per set) to go along with 2.33 digs and 0.67 blocks per frame. Her performances helped the No. 2 Panthers record their fifth and sixth consecutive sweeps, as Pitt has dropped just one set out of 31 in ACC play.
Dexter, a junior, scored the winning goal for Pitt men's soccer against Duke Friday, Oct. 25. The Panthers defeated the Blue Devils for the first time in program history and improved to 8-5-2 on the year. Pitt trailed 3-1 entering the half and came back to score three consecutive goals to secure the win. Dexter's goal came in the 86th minute.
Up next, the second-ranked Pitt volleyball team (21-1, 10-0 ACC) will host a four-match homestand, starting with Wake Forest Friday, Nov. 1, at 7 p.m. ET at Fitzgerald Field House.
Pitt men's soccer will conclude the regular season Friday at Notre Dame at 7 p.m. before entering postseason play.
