PITTSBURGH—Pitt junior placekicker Alex Kessman has been named the ACC Specialist of the Week for his performance this past Saturday against Miami.
Kessman (Clarkston, Mich./Clarkston) converted each of his four field goal attempts—including a 54-yarder—in accounting for 12 points against the Hurricanes. He became the first Pitt kicker to make four field goals in a game since Kevin Harper at Notre Dame on Nov. 3, 2012.
Kessman's 54-yarder against Miami marked his seventh career field goal of more than 50 yards, extending his own school record. He already owns the Heinz Field record for longest field goal by a professional or collegian (55 yards). The NFL record for longest field goal in the venue is 53 yards (held Chris Boswell and Dan Bailey).
Kessman has now kicked seven of the nine longest field goals in school history, including a Pitt record-tying 56-yarder.
Kessman leads Pitt in scoring with 54 points on 12-of-18 field goals and 18-of-19 extra points. With his Miami performance, he now has compiled 200 points for his career and ranks sixth in all-time kick scoring and 12th (tied) in overall scoring.
Pitt (5-3, 2-2 ACC) plays at Georgia Tech (2-5, 1-3) this Saturday at 4 p.m. The game will be locally televised by AT&T SportsNet Pittsburgh.
