
Panthers Finish Strong At Arturo Barrios Invitational On Saturday

COLLEGE STATION, TX – Competing in their final tune-up before the ACC Championships, the University of Pittsburgh cross country teams put together a strong showing at the 2nd annual Arturo Barrios Invitational hosted by Texas A&M on Saturday morning. The Pitt men took home sixth place while the women notched an eighth place finish.
On the men's side, the Panthers posted a team score of 237 as they notched a sixth place finish in the field of 26 teams. Pitt finished just behind the likes of Tennessee, Florida, California Baptist, Texas A&M and the winning team from Middle Tennessee State.
Leading the way for the Panthers on Saturday morning was senior captain Nick Wolk who took home ninth place overall in the race as he crossed the line in 23:55.6 while junior Zach Lefever posted a strong 13th place finish in 24:05.8. Sophomore Evan Addison had a strong finish, taking home 42nd place in 24:45.9 while Josh Higgins and Nick Cardamone also posted top-100 finishes, crossing the line in 86th and 95th place respectively.
The Pitt women had a strong showing of their own on Saturday as they posted a team score of 261 as they posted an eighth place team finish in the 26 team field. The Panthers came in right behind Gonzaga and Texas Tech while California Baptist earned the team win, posting a score of 75.
Senior captain Sam Shields posted a 33rd place finish to lead Pitt as she crossed the finish line in 21:27.9. Junior Ally Brunton had a strong race as she took home 40th place overall in 21:34.7 while sophomore Devon Hoernlein continued her strong campaign with a 49th place finish in 21:43.2. A trio of freshmen crossed the line next for Pitt as Corinne Firestone finished in 70th place, Lily Robertson took home 91st place and Jenna Baltes posted a 117th place finish.
Pitt will now have a week off before heading to Blacksburg, VA to compete in the ACC Cross Country Championships hosted by Virginia Tech on Friday, Nov. 1 at 10:00 am.
