PITTSBURGH—The Pitt swimming & diving teams will go head-to-head with Michigan State on Friday evening in an ACC-Big Ten dual meet slated to start at 4 p.m. at McCaffree Pool in East Lansing, Mich.
The Friday night showdown between the Panthers and Spartans will mark the second meeting between the programs during Pitt head coach John Hargis' four-year tenure. In October 2017, Pitt emerged with comfortable victories over Michigan State in both the men's and women's action at Trees Pool.
The Panthers have started their 2019-20 campaign with three solid meets, dominating Carnegie Mellon in a relays matchup, placing well at the FIU TYR Classic and showcasing strong diving and LCM swimming last weekend in a quad meet at Trees Pool with Duquesne, Villanova and Youngstown State.
The Pitt-Michigan State meet on Friday will mark the first traditional short-course yards dual meet of the collegiate season for the Panthers.
The Panthers will be led on the men's side by Eben Vorster and Blaise Vera, who have been named Pitt Student-Athletes of the Week in recent weeks, among a host of others. The Pitt women's team features seniors Valerie Daigneault and Madelyn Shaffer pacing the way in swimming, while several talented freshmen and sophomores, including England natives Daisy Anderson and Amy Read, have also started the season with several impressive performances.
Live stats from the Pitt-Michigan State meet will be available on the MeetMobile app, while final results will be posted on PittsburghPanthers.com at the conclusion of the contest.
