Three Panthers Earn Individual Titles
PITTSBURGH – Three Panthers earned individual titles as the Pitt gymnastics team (5-2, 1-1 EAGL) picked up its first East Atlantic Gymnastics League win of the season, defeating George Washington (2-2, 1-1 EAGL), 195.175-194.625, Saturday afternoon at Fitzgerald Field House.
Pitt's overall score of 195.175 marked a season high for the Panthers.
The Panthers outscored the Colonials on vault (48.900-48.675) and bars (48.550-48.200), while tying on floor (48.925). George Washington had the slight edge on beam (48.825-48.800). Pitt's team scores on bars (48.550), beam (48.800) and floor (48.925) were season highs.
Freshman Olivia Miller earned the first vault title of her career, tying for the victory at 9.800 with GW's Cydney Crasa. Junior Rachel Dugan posted her first individual title of the season, winning bars with a season-high 9.800. Senior Brittany West rounded out Pitt's trio of individual wins by earning her second of the year on beam, landing a 9.850 to tie with GW's Alexandra Zois.
WITH THE WIN…
VAULT
Behind Miller's event-winning, season-high score of 9.800, four Panthers landed in a tie for third place at 9.775 – senior Charli Spivey, junior Deven Herbine and sophomores Haley Brechwald and Sophie Bochenek. Junior Alecia Petrikis rounded out the squad with a 9.750 for a team score of 48.900.
BARS
Pitt swept the podium on bars, with Dugan on top at 9.800. Senior Lucy Brett followed in second at 9.775 and Miller earned a 9.750 for third. Pitt combined for a season-high 48.550 on the event.
BEAM
West continued her success on beam, marking her third consecutive meet with the team-high score. She tied for the win at 9.850. Brett finished third with a 9.800, and Herbine earned a 9.775 in her season debut for the event to place fourth. As a team, Pitt produced a season-high score of 48.800 on beam.
FLOOR
To close out the day, Bochenek earned a career-high 9.825 on floor to tie for second in the event. Two more Panthers earned career-best scores, including Miller (9.775) and Brett (9.725). Sophomore Jordan Ceccarini put up a season-high 9.775 to tie for fourth overall. Pitt completed the meet with a season-best 48.925 in the event.
UP NEXT
The Panthers will stay home and face North Carolina and Temple for a tri-meet Friday, Feb. 1, at 7 p.m. at Fitzgerald Field House. The meet will be streamed live on ACC Network Extra, available on the WatchESPN app.
