Pitt Athletics & Lyft Announce Official Partnership

PITTSBURGH -- It's that time of year when thousands of students go back to school in Pittsburgh and that means another year of late nights in the library, trips to the South Side, and Panthers' games.
As the official partner of University of Pittsburgh Athletics, Lyft is providing a dedicated pick-up and drop-off location at both Heinz Field (along Reedsdale Street just east of Art Rooney Ave.) and Petersen Events Center for reliable, affordable, and convenient rides to students who are looking to get to and from campus seamlessly.
"We love that our students want to have a full University experience and attending our athletic events is definitely part of that overall experience," said Deputy Athletic Director Christian Spears. "We are tremendously excited to announce this partnership and hope that it will be well received by our students."
Students are using Lyft and other transportation options more than ever; at top universities in large cities, less than 7 percent of students had vehicles on-campus, with select schools reporting zero percent in the 2016-2017 academic year, according to a survey by U.S. News. In Pittsburgh, students are using Lyft to get to places like the airport, restaurants, and entertainment venues – this means that they are more in touch with their communities and able to access the places they need to be successful in school.
"I am excited by the response that we have seen from University of Pittsburgh students. Lyft provides students an earning opportunity if they decide to bring a car to school and gives them access to a reliable transportation option if they are car-less," said Josh Huber, Lyft Pittsburgh Market Manager. "Between navigating school, work, and extracurriculars, the last thing that any student should worry about is finding a ride they can rely on."
New Lyft users can use the code HAILTOPITT18 to receive a special $4.12 flat rate for a ride to or from Pitt's campus. Need some inspiration? Check out these top destinations below.
