PITTSBURGH—Pitt senior running back Darrin Hall has been selected a preseason candidate for the esteemed Wuerffel Trophy, which annually honors college football's top community servant.
Hall is the fifth different Pitt football player in the past four years named to the Wuerffel Trophy watch list, joining James Conner, Brian O'Neill, Adam Bisnowaty, Mike Caprara and Chad Voytik. O'Neill (2017) and Caprara (2016) were chosen as Wuerffel Trophy semifinalists the past two seasons.
In addition to being a standout tailback for the Pitt football team, Hall ranks among Pitt's most active student-athletes when it comes to community service. A 2017 All-ACC Academic Football Team selection as a healthy and physical activity major, Hall has participated in numerous community outreach events, including a mission trip to Haiti, Dollar Energy Fund's "Cool Down for Warmth," Christmas at Pitt and more.

A native of Youngstown, Ohio, Hall is coming off his best season on the field as well.
In 2017, he paced the Panthers' rushing attack with 628 yards and nine touchdowns on 128 carries (4.9 avg.), while adding 16 receptions for 157 yards (9.8 avg.) and a TD. Hall finished second in scoring with 60 points on a team-high 10 touchdowns.
His most memorable performance came at Duke last October, when he rumbled for a career-high 254 yards and three touchdowns on 24 carries (10.6 avg.) to spark a 24-17 victory. Hall ripped off touchdown sprints of 79 and 92 yards, the latter score marking the longest run in Pitt history (breaking a 100-year-old record). His third TD, a four-yard run in the final period, proved to be the game-winner.
Semifinalists will be announced on November 1, with finalists set to be selected on November 19. The 2018 Wuerffel Trophy will be presented to the winning recipient at a National Football Foundation press conference in New York City on December 4. The winner will then have the opportunity to attend the Home Depot College Football Awards on December 6.
Tickets for the 2018 Pitt football season are now on sale. Call the Pitt Ticket Office at (800) 643-PITT (7488) or visit PittsburghPanthers.com.
