PITTSBURGH—Two University of Pittsburgh women's swimming & diving athletes received the distinction of placement on the All-ACC Academic Team for the 2017-18 season, the league office announced Thursday.
Pitt seniors Lina Rathsack and Meme Sharp were the honored student-athletes as each met the academic requirements of achieving at least a 3.0 grade-point average during the Fall 2017 semester and cumulatively as well as surpassing the athletic achievements to earn All-ACC Academic.
Rathsack earned her first All-ACC Academic Team nod after her historic 2017-18 season in the pool. The senior became Pitt swimming's best ACC finisher when she took second in the 100-yard breaststroke—just .01 seconds off an individual ACC title. Rathsack also qualified for the ACC championship final in the 200 breast, scored at ACCs in the 200 individual medley and secured a berth at the NCAA Championships for the third time in her collegiate career. She will graduate with the Pitt women's swimming school records in the 100-yard breast, 200-yard breast and 200-yard IM.
Rathsack has a 3.04 cumulative GPA as a natural science major after earning a 3.54 mark academically during the Fall 2017 semester.
Sharp achieved All-ACC Academic recognition for the third consecutive season. The senior diver finished her Pitt career as the school-record holder in all three women's diving disciplines. Highlighting her 2017-18 accomplishments, Sharp won the 1-meter title at USA Diving Winter Nationals, lowered her own Pitt record on 1-meter in her final home meet at Trees Pool, scored in all three diving events at the ACC Championships and qualified for the NCAA Championships for the third consecutive season.
Sharp owns a 3.68 cumulative GPA as a communication and rhetoric major and also tallied an impressive 3.88 GPA in the Fall 2017 semester.
