Pitt Diver Concludes Career, Accepts ACC Futures Internship with Orange Bowl
Four years appears to be a short span in the grand scheme of an individual's life, just a blip on the radar in hindsight.
But for those talented and determined enough to compete at the highest stages of collegiate athletics, those four years not only prepare you for your future, but provide a multitude of chances for greatness.
Meme Sharp is an example of that greatness, in and out of the pool, and the senior is making her final farewell to collegiate diving, wrapping up her career as one of Pitt's most prolific student-athletes.
In the pool, Sharp has excelled in her time with the Panthers. She was the first woman to win an Atlantic Coast Conference individual title, capturing gold on 3-meter springboard at the 2016 ACC Championships. Sharp also earned All-America honors that season on 3-meter.
This season, Sharp scored on all three boards in her final ACC championships and qualified for the NCAA Championships for the third consecutive season.
Dominant over her four seasons, she holds the Pitt program diving records in all three disciplines.
"It's easy to go out there and work your butt off when you feel appreciated by the people in the Pittsburgh community," said Sharp, a native of Noblesville, Ind. "That's something I've been very thankful to have at Pitt."
Not just a diving star, Sharp excels in the classroom as a communication major, carrying a 3.7 cumulative grade-point average and earning the 2018 ACC Postgraduate Scholarship as the winner of the Weather-James-Corrigan Postgraduate Award.
Just recently, Sharp was also offered—and has accepted—a nine-month internship beginning in July with the prestigious Orange Bowl, which hosts one of college football's premier bowl games each year at Hard Rock Stadium near Miami, Fla.

In her role with the Orange Bowl offices, Sharp will provide multifaceted support to the Orange Bowl committee staff by assisting with various elements of its festival, community and game events as well as general office operations. Sharp will spend time with the Orange Bowl's community relations, events and business offices during her internship.
"I am excited for Meme to begin her post-graduate career with the ACC Futures Internship Program," said Jackson Martin, director of life skills for Pitt Athletics. "Her talents in the pool are world-class, and I am sure the work-ethic and professionalism she possesses will serve as fuel to her success in this position."
Sharp joins current Pitt participants in the ACC Futures Internship such as Dan Furman (baseball), a championships intern with the ACC office, and Destine Gibbs (women's basketball, a production intern with FOX Sports in Florida, among others who have succeeded in the program in the past.
