Student Organization Maintains University Traditions, Connects with Alumni
PITTSBURGH – Five University of Pittsburgh student-athletes have been inducted into the Blue and Gold Society, the Department of Athletics announced Monday.
"It's a great opportunity for the Department of Athletics to further integrate with the campus and the Alumni Association," Assistant Athletic Director for Student Life Lisa Auld said. "I am really proud of our student-athletes who are proactively seeking to get involved and give back to the University and the Blue and Gold Society is an excellent way to do just that."
The society inducted 14 new members in 2018 and five are Pitt student-athletes, including:
Catie Conrad, gymnastics
Maddie Hobbs, women's soccer
Jimmy Morrissey, football
Anthony Starzynski, men's basketball
Rashad Weaver, football
Founded in 1992, the Blue and Gold Society is an undergraduate student organization sponsored by the Pitt Alumni Association. It is composed of top students who serve as student ambassadors for the association and the University. In addition, the society is the governing body of the Student Alumni Association.
The mission of the Blue and Gold Society is to "support university related programs and community-wide events by strengthening the relationship among alumni, students, faculty and staff." Members upkeep such traditions as Homecoming, Lantern Night and Paint the Town.
Senior student-athlete and All-American thrower Andin Fosam has been a member of the Blue and Gold Society since her sophomore year at Pitt.
"I love being in the Blue and Gold Society," Fosam said. "As a member, I have the privilege of being part of a group of student leaders who love Pitt just as much as I do, and I continually grow alongside them. It's a very humbling experience to be a part of a group of such diverse and accomplished individuals. The professional and inclusive culture of the group has allowed me to step out of my comfort zones, make important connections and enhance my Pitt experience in a way I didn't know I could."
