Session 2 Recap: Four Panthers Advance to Day Two

All Pitt Wrestlers Still Alive at NCAA Wrestling Championships
CLEVELAND, Ohio – It was a solid evening session for the Panthers as all four wrestlers live to see another day at the 2018 NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships in Quicken Loans Arena.
Senior Dom Forys (133), redshirt senior Nick Zanetta (141), redshirt sophomore Taleb Rahmani (157) and redshirt senior Ryan Solomon (285) will compete in session three Friday morning as they continue their journey in Cleveland.
At the conclusion of day one, Pitt recorded three pins placing them tied for 14th place in the team race with 10 points.

133 | #6 Scott Parker (LEHIGH) dec. #11 Dom Forys (UP), 7-5
Lehigh's Scott Parker was out for revenge in today's match as Forys claimed the last meeting during the regular season. After a scoreless first period, Parker got on the board first after an escape off bottom. He then jumped to a 3-0 lead after a takedown. Forys then escaped with 1:15 to go in the second to cut Parker's lead to 3-1. The Pittsburgh native started the third frame on bottom and escaped to trail 3-2 with 1:47 to go. A penalty point awarded to Parker then put Forys behind 4-2. A Forys takedown then tied it 4-4. Parker escaped to take a 5-4 lead with 1:14 to go and would then score his final takedown. Forys escaped with under 30 seconds to go but it wouldn't be enough.

141 | Nick Zanetta (UP) maj. dec. Kyle Shoop (LHU), 10-1
Zanetta bounced back in the consolation round picking up a 10-1 major decision over Lock Haven's Kyle Shoop. Zanetta jumped to a 6-0 lead in the first after a takedown and four nearfall points. Starting the second neutral, Zanetta quickly scored another takedown and allowed Shoop to escape. The Pittsburgh native led 8-1 entering the final frame and started on bottom. Zanetta escaped and added his final point with riding time to advance to Friday.

157 | #1 Hayden Hidlay (NCST) dec. Taleb Rahmani (UP), 4-2
Rahmani dropped another close match to the No. 1 seed Hayden Hidlay of NC State as the two went to sudden victory at the ACC Championship. Hidlay came out on top again in a 4-2 decision. Rahmani trailed 2-1 entering the second frame and quickly escaped to tie it 2-2 and would be unable to score again in that period. Hidlay picked up his final two points via escape and penalty point.

285 | Ryan Solomon (UP) pins #16 Matt Stencel (CMU), 3:51
Solomon knocked off the No. 16 seed Matt Stencel of Central Michigan in 3:51. After a scoreless first period, Solomon started the second on top. He was looking for back points when he was able to record the fall.
