Pitt Falls to No. 14 Nebraska on the Road

Panthers Continue Competition Sunday, March 4
LINCOLN, Neb. – The University of Pittsburgh gymnastics team concluded its dual meet against No. 14 Nebraska with a 193.600 Saturday, Feb. 24, at Bob Devaney Sports Center in Lincoln, Neb., while the nationally ranked Huskers finished with a 196.425.
The Panthers saw five top-five finishes this evening, beginning with two on vault in freshman Haley Brechwald and sophomore Deven Herbine. Brechwald scored a season-high tying 9.850 to come in third, while Herbine tied a career-high 9.825 for a fifth place finish. Sophomore Lucy Jones finished tied for fourth on bars with a 9.800, while senior Catie Conrad tied for second on beam with the same score. Sophomore Alecia Petrikis rounded out the top-five finishes, earning a 9.825 to finish fourth on floor.
Brechwald, who was Pitt's lone all-around competitor, concluded the meet with a 39.150.
The Panthers best event of the day was bars, where they earned a team score of 48.800. Pitt followed up on floor with a 48.750, beam a 48.050 and vault a 48.000.
BARS
The Panthers started the evening on bars, posting their top score of the event. Jones led with her 9.800, while Brechwald followed up with a 9.775. Senior Taylor Laymon and Junior Lucy Brett each posted a 9.750, while Conrad rounded out the counting scores with a 9.725.
In the opening rotation, Nebraska finished with a 49.175 on vault.
VAULT
In the second rotation, Brechwald led Pitt on vault with Herbine just behind. Petrikis tallied a 9.800 on the event, while junior Kensleigh Owens scored a 9.750.
The Huskers posted a 48.850 on bars in the second rotation, while the Panthers finished with a 48.800 on vault.
FLOOR
Next up for the Panthers was floor. Petrikis was Pitt's leader on the event with a 9.825. Owens, along with junior Charli Spivey recorded a 9.775, while Brechwald rounded out the top scores with a 9.750.
The Panthers finished with a 48.750 on the event, while Nebraska posted a 49.025 on beam in the third rotation.
BEAM
The Panthers concluded the meet on beam, where Conrad was the top scorer with a 9.800. Brechwald came in next with a 9.775, while Laymon earned a 9.725.
Pitt finished out the meet with a 48.050 on beam. The Huskers posted their highest score of the evening on floor with a 49.375.

The Panthers will return to Pittsburgh for their final home meet of the season when they host Penn State and West Virginia at the Fitzgerald Field House Sunday, March 4 at 2 p.m. Pitt will honor its three seniors, Dani Hall, Conrad and Laymon at the conclusion of the meet.
