Pitt Opens Standing Room Only Inventory
PITTSBURGH – The University of Pittsburgh announced that the Petersen Events Center is sold out of general seating for the Panthers' Tuesday, Jan. 22 showdown with No. 2 Duke (9 p.m. – ESPN2/ESPNU).
While seats for Pitt vs. Duke are officially SOLD OUT through Pitt Athletics, at 10:00 a.m. Monday, Dec. 17, the Panthers Ticket Office will be releasing 200 standing room only tickets at $65 each. Limit four tickets per person, CLICK HERE or call 800-643-7488. Also, a limited number of seats are still available through Pitt's official secondary ticketing partner StubHub at www.stubhub.com.
The sellout would be the first for Pitt under head coach Jeff Capel and the first at the Pete since a Feb. 28, 2016 showdown with the Blue Devils. Pitt posted a 76-62 win over No. 15 Duke in that contest as James Robinson and Jamel Artis combined for 31 points, eight rebounds and 11 assists. Pitt set a Petersen Events Center attendance record Jan. 27, 2014 when 12,944 fans attending the Panthers first ACC matchups against Duke.
Pitt also announced the addition of a Pitt Basketball Experience ticket package through its online auction site for the Duke game Jan. 22. Fans have the opportunity to bid on a package that includes two club level tickets, a parking pass, two Oakland Zoo shirts, and a private facilities tour featuring a behind the scenes look at Pitt Studios as well as pregame courtside and postgame press conference access. Bidding is now open HERE.
Mini packages and single game tickets for Pitt's remaining 11 home games are available through the Panthers Ticket Office ONLINE or via phone at 800-643-7488. Group discounts and experiences are also available, visit HERE for more information. The Panthers' remaining home slate includes matchups with No. 12 North Carolina (Jan. 5), No. 10 Florida State (Jan. 14), No. 25 Syracuse (Feb. 2) and No. 13 Virginia Tech (Feb. 16).
Pitt's ACC opener against No. 12 North Carolina has also been a hot ticket and is approaching sellout status. There is also a Pitt Basketball Experience ticket package available to bid on at www.pittsburghpanthers.com/auctions/.
The Panthers are 8-3 on the season with non-conference games remaining against New Orleans (Dec. 20) and Colgate (Dec. 29) before the start of ACC play. Freshman guard Xavier Johnson is having a record-setting rookie campaign for the Panthers averaging 16.4 points per game with 11 double-figure scoring efforts and three games with 20 or more points scored.
Pitt has also received solid play from veterans Jared Wilson-Frame (12.4 ppg.), Malik Ellison (8.9 ppg.) and Kene Chukwuka (5.6 ppg., 5.2 rpg.) and a pair of other exciting freshmen in Trey McGowens 10.6 ppg., 2.0 spg.) and Au'Diese Toney (9.0 ppg., 6.3 rpg.).
The Panthers have returned to an aggressive style of play that has the team rank 12th in the NCAA in field goal percentage defense (.375) and 14th in the NCAA in KenPom raw defensive efficiency.
Pitt plays New Orleans Thursday, Dec. 20 (7 pm – ACCN Extra) before heading into the holiday break. Single game tickets are available HERE.
