PITTSBURGH—Pitt surged into both Top 25 college football polls today, placing No. 24 in the Associated Press rankings and No. 25 in the Amway Coaches Poll.
The Panthers have won four consecutive games, including a 34-13 decision at Wake Forest yesterday that clinched the first ACC Coastal Division championship in school history. Pitt is 7-4 overall and 6-1 in conference play.
Facing a non-conference schedule widely deemed the toughest in the nation, three of Pitt's losses are to teams that are a combined 29-3: No. 3/3 Notre Dame (11-0), No. 8/9 UCF (10-0) and No. 15/14 Penn State (8-3).
Pitt will play its regular-season finale at Miami this Saturday, Nov. 24. The game will be nationally televised by ESPN and kick off at 3:30 p.m. The Panthers will then face No. 2 Clemson in the Dr Pepper ACC Football Championship Game on Dec. 1 (ABC national telecast at 8 p.m.).
Pitt is making its first poll appearance since December 2016, when the Panthers carried a No. 22 AP ranking into the bowl season. Pitt is ranked in the Amway Coaches Poll for the first time since the week of Oct. 25, 2015, when it was No. 24.
