Volleyball, Men’s Soccer Student-Athletes Honored
PITTSBURGH – Redshirt sophomore Kylee Levers of volleyball and sophomore Edward Kizza of men's soccer were named the University of Pittsburgh Student-Athletes of the Week, announced Tuesday.
Levers, a setter for the unbeaten No. 6 Pitt volleyball team (17-0, 6-0 ACC), was a major contributor to the Panthers' wins over Syracuse (3-1) and Boston College (3-0) at Fitzgerald Field House. Levers contributed a team-high 6.29 assists per set over the weekend and was second on the squad with 1.14 blocks per set. Against the Orange, Levers was an asset in the front row, good for career highs of two kills and five blocks. She followed that performance by leading the Panthers with 21 assists in a 3-0 sweep of Boston College Sunday. Off to its best start to a season in program history, Pitt rose from No. 8 to No. 6 in the AVCA weekly poll and moved up from No. 6 to No. 4 in the second release of the NCAA women's volleyball RPI, announced Monday.
Kizza, a forward, has racked up five goals in just the past two matches for Pitt men's soccer (6-6-0, 2-3-0 ACC). The Kampala, Uganda, native netted both of the Panthers' goals in its 2-1 double overtime victory against Clemson Friday, Oct. 5, at Ambrose Urbanic Field. Kizza collected his first goal of the match in the 10th minute before adding his game-winner 101:57 into the match. In the Panthers' contest against Cleveland State on Monday, the sophomore recorded his second hat trick of the season. Kizza now owns 11 goals on the year, tying him for 10th in program history with Joe Luxbacher (1971). No Pitt player has cracked the top-10 in single-season goals since 1977.
The No. 6 Pitt volleyball team will host North Dakota for mid-week match Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Fitzgerald Field House. The match will be streamed live on ACC Network Extra, available via the WatchESPN app.
Pitt men's soccer will travel to Blacksburg, Va., to face ACC opponent Virginia Tech Friday at 7 p.m. The match will be streamed live on ACC Network Extra, available via the WatchESPN app.
