Van Buskirk, Pimentel Dubbed Pitt Student-Athletes of the Week

Volleyball, Men’s Soccer Student-Athletes Honored
PITTSBURGH – Junior Layne Van Buskirk of volleyball and sophomore Marcony Pimentel of men's soccer were named the University of Pittsburgh Student-Athletes of the Week, announced Tuesday.
Van Buskirk, a middle hitter, led No. 8 Pitt on offense with a blistering attack percentage of .459 for the week in wins against Miami (Sept. 28) and Florida State (Sept. 30). The Windsor, Ontario, native posted a career-high 16 kills and neared a double-double with seven blocks in a 3-1 victory for the Panthers over the Seminoles ). She blocked a team-high 1.86 balls per set, and was second on the team with 3.00 kills per set for the week. The Panthers extended their best start to a season in program history with the two home wins to improve to 15-0 overall, 4-0 in ACC play. Pitt is one of two remaining unbeaten teams in the country, along with No. 1 BYU (15-0).
Pimentel scored his second goal and recorded his second assist of the season in Tuesday's 3-1 win over No. 12 NC State. He currently ranks second on the team in shots (18), shots on goal (seven) and points (six).
No. 8 Pitt volleyball will wear #PittRetro uniforms when it hosts Syracuse at Fitzgerald Field House Friday, Oct. 5, at 6 p.m. The match will be streamed live on ACC Network Extra, available via the WatchESPN app.
