PITTSBURGH – The University of Pittsburgh announced a special edition Bill Hillgrove bobblehead giveway presented by UPMC for the Panthers' home football game against Virginia Tech Saturday, Nov. 10. The first 30,000 fans to Heinz Field will receive the Hillgrove bobblehead commemorating his tenure as the "Voice of the Panthers".
The 2018-19 athletic calendar marks a significant milestone for Hillgrove as he will be in his 50th season calling Pitt men's basketball games, his 45th season on the mic for Panther football games and his 25th campaign as the radio voice of the Pittsburgh Steelers. He was initially the color analyst for Pitt football from 1970-73 before taking over play-by-play duties for the 1974 season.
The 2007 Chris Schenkel Award winner for excellence in college football broadcasting, Hillgrove has been on the call for some of the greatest moments in Pitt history. The special edition bobblehead features audio of Hillgrove's iconic call of Tony Dorsett's 32-yard touchdown run at Navy on Oct. 23, 1976, when he broke the NCAA career rushing record.
Tickets for the key ACC Coastal Division tilt with Virginia Tech start at $27 and can be purchased HERE. The Hokies currently hold a one-game lead over Pitt, Miami and Virginia atop the division.
