Markovic, Brezniak Receive First National Bank Weekly Honors

Sophomore Continues Dominance on Court, Rookie Nets Second Goal
PITTSBURGH – University of Pittsburgh student-athletes Nika Markovic and Colin Brezniak were named First National Bank Student-Athletes of the Week, announced Tuesday.
Markovic, a sophomore, continued her dominance on the court for Pitt volleyball (9-4, 2-0) after leading the Panthers to a 2-0 weekend against Syracuse and Boston College to open ACC play. The Braslovce, Slovenia, native was outstanding offensively tallying 4.50 kills per set after putting away 36 kills in 62 attempts. She committed just five errors on the weekend to hit at a .500 clip. A well-rounded player, Markovic also tallied 18 digs (2.25/set), nine blocks, six assists and two aces.
Rookie Brezniak found the back of net for the second time this season for Pitt men's soccer (3-5, 0-3) in a 2-1 win over Robert Morris Tuesday, Sept. 19, at Ambrose Urbanic Field. The Hanover, Pa., native gave the Panthers an initial 1-0 lead in the eighth minute of the match against the Colonials. He holds the team lead with four points thus far on the season.
Pitt volleyball will continue its home slate of ACC matches with Virginia Friday at 7 p.m., followed by Virginia Tech Sunday at 1 p.m. at the Fitzgerald Field House. Both matches will be streamed live on ACC Network Extra.
Men's soccer is back in action Tuesday to take on West Virginia in the Backyard Brawl. The match is set to get underway at 7 p.m. at Ambrose Urbanic in the Petersen Sports Complex with a live stream on ACC Network Extra.
