PITTSBURGH – Tyler Carpenter has been named Head Strength and Conditioning Coach at the University of Pittsburgh, as announced recently by Director of Athletics Heather Lyke. Carpenter joins the department after spending the previous four years as an assistant strength and conditioning coach at The Ohio State University.
"We are thrilled to add Tyler as the new leader of our strength and conditioning area," said Lyke. "Tyler brings a tremendous amount of energy, experience and vision for how we train and develop our student-athletes. His passion is contagious and he loves the opportunity to impact our student-athletes' lives. He will be a great resource for our coaches and student-athletes and will play a large role in the overall development of our athletic teams."
Carpenter is responsible for developing and managing effective individual and group strength and conditioning programs for student-athletes in various sports as well as overseeing assistant strength coaches. He will work primarily with the men's and women's soccer programs as well as men's cross country. He will devise sport-specific programming that includes optimization of strength, power, flexibility, mobility, agility, speed, and/or work capacity designed to enhance sports performance to decrease injuries and assist with rehabilitation.
Carpenter was a manager with the Ohio State football team from 2006-11 before spending eight months as a strength and conditioning intern with the program. He went on to spend two years as a graduate assistant strength and conditioning coach with the University of Tennessee Lady Vols and other Olympic Sports. Carpenter returned to Ohio State in June of 2013 as an assistant strength and conditioning coach, where he worked with the men's and women's soccer, women's ice hockey and women's track and field.
The Liberty Center, Ohio, native, graduated from the Fisher College of Business at Ohio State in 2011 and earned his master's degree in kinesiology from Tennessee in 2013.
