PITTSBURGH -- Senior guard Jonathan Milligan has been a steady influence on a young Pitt team in the early part of the 2017-18 season. The Orlando, Fla., native has provided strong leadership on a roster featuring 11 newcomers, including seven scholarship freshmen, while also averaging 6.8 points, 1.4 rebounds and 1.7 assists per game.
Milligan has made 14 consecutive free throws and is 20-of-24 (.833) from the free throw line on the year. He has three double-figure scoring games on the season, including a career-high 16 points in a win over Lehigh.
His leadership approach with the young Panther team has been to set an example through his actions on and off the court. Whether it is providing energy on gameday or pulling a teammate aside after a tough practice, Milligan has shown true commitment to the development of this team.
"People may not always listen to what you say but they will listen to what you do," said Milligan.
Milligan and the Panthers return to action following final week Saturday, Dec. 16 against McNeese State (2 p.m. - ESPN. Pitt has won four of the past five contests with the lone loss coming last Saturday to No. 18 West Virginia.
