
Four Panthers Earn All-ACC Honors

Perez, Planellas Named to Second and Third Team; Dexter, Kizza Named to All-Freshman

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Four members of the University of Pittsburgh men's soccer team earned All-ACC accolades as announced by the league Tuesday afternoon.
Junior Javi Perez was tabbed Second Team All-ACC and senior Pol Planellas was named Third Team All-ACC, while freshmen Alexander Dexter and Edward Kizza were named to the All-Freshman Team. All four Panthers were newcomers in 2017.
The postseason accolades are the first in program history since Pitt joined the ACC in 2013.
Perez, a midfielder from Valencia, Spain, played a major role as a leader in the midfield in 2017 starting and making an appearance in all but one game. In his first season with the Panthers, he netted two goals and had four assists. His second goal of the year came against long-time rival Penn State in overtime, lifting Pitt to a 3-2 victory.
In his lone season with Pitt, Planellas also played a critical role in the Panther midfield. The Barcelona native recorded one goal with four assists.
Dexter, also making his debut this year, finished with a team-best 14 points after netting six goals and recording two assists. The Brooklyn, N.Y., native lifted the Panthers to victory on two occasions this year, scoring Pitt's lone goals against No. 13 Columbia and No. 7 Notre Dame.
Kizza concluded his first year at Pitt with 11 points, second-best on the team, after burying four goals and recording three assists. The Kampala, Uganda, native netted two goals in the Panthers' 7-0 win versus West Virginia and scored one of the two goals in Pitt's first conference win in program history over No. 21 Syracuse.
The Panthers finished the 2017 season 8-10 overall with a 2-6 mark against ACC foes. Pitt took down three ranked opponents, while defeating long-time rivals West Virginia and Penn State.
