PITTSBURGH—Four Pitt players were named to the All-Atlantic Coast Conference Football Team announced today by the league office.
The Panthers' first-team selections are junior offensive tackle Brian O'Neill and senior punter Ryan Winslow. Junior wide receiver Quadree Henderson was a second-team pick in the specialist category, while senior cornerback Avonte Maddox was recognized on the third team.
Additionally, five Panthers received Honorable Mention All-ACC: junior guard Alex Bookser, senior guard Alex Officer, junior linebacker Oluwaseun Idowu, junior safety Jordan Whitehead and Henderson as an all-purpose player.
The official All-ACC Team is voted on by conference head coaches, a representative from each of the 14 schools' radio broadcast teams and select media members who cover the league on a daily basis.
O'Neill (Wilmington, Del./Salesianum School) was named All-ACC for the second consecutive season. He was a second-team pick last year by the coaches. For the 2017 season, O'Neill shifted from right to left tackle, where he started all 12 contests. He owns an active streak of 37 consecutive starts on the Panthers' offensive line.
Winslow (Maple Glen, Pa./La Salle College H.S.) performed like a 12th member of Pitt's defense this year, controlling the field position with his booming punts. The senior averaged a career-best 44.5 yards on 57 punts. That average tops the ACC and ranks 12th nationally.
Henderson (Wilmington, Del./Alexis I. du Pont) was honored on the second team for his production as a return specialist. He compiled 767 combined kick return yards (524 on kickoffs and 243 on punts), a total that ranks 15th nationally. Henderson's two punt return touchdowns this season are tied for the ACC lead and rank second in the nation. This is the second year in a row Henderson has been an All-ACC return man.
Despite missing more than two games due to injury, Maddox (Detroit, Mich./Martin Luther King) was Pitt's most productive cover man, compiling 11 pass breakups and two interceptions. He also had three forced fumbles, ranking second in the ACC and 20th nationally in that category (0.30 per game). Maddox was also a highly effective blitzer, collecting four sacks. He had two in the fourth quarter of Pitt's 24-14 upset of Miami, including a strip-sack that iced the victory.
